About Anita Blanton

Anita Blanton joined the news team as co-anchor of Eyewitness News 5 In The Morning in Oct. 2008. Previously, she was a morning anchor and reporter at WRIC-TV in Richmond, Va.

Anita began her career in journalism at KTXS-TV in Abilene, Texas, before heading to Central Texas to work at KWTX-TV in Waco.

Some of the most memorable reports in Anita’s career have been centered around severe weather coverage. From being on the forefront of tornado coverage in both Texas and Virginia, to delivering live reports during the worst fire season in Texas history, Anita has been a trusted source of information to viewers.

While in Texas, she was able to cover President George W. Bush and other officials travelling to and from Crawford.  She was also a part of team coverage in Virginia throughout Michael Vick’s federal trial and at the time of the Virginia Tech massacre.

Anita is a proud alumna of Hampton University in Hampton, VA. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in broadcast journalism and political science from the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications. During her time at her “home by the sea,” Anita interned at WAVY-TV10 in Portsmouth, Va., NATPE in Las Vegas, NV and NBC Universal in New York City, New York.

In her spare time, Anita enjoys reading, writing, singing, listening to music, travelling and spending time with friends and her family in Texas. But, her heart is attached to her community involvement.

Anita has won numerous awards for her community service. She has volunteered and served as a spokesperson for several organizations, and created many mentoring groups for pre-teens and teens in Virginia and Texas.

Anita is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

  1. Dear Anita,

Welcome to OKC! Already, I am a big fan of yours. I enjoyed watching KOCO in the morning to see Ms. T. Cook report the news and now you. I watched the relaunching of “What Matters To You” today- the BBBS segment. I teach first grade and one of my students is in the program. It has really done wonders for her. I am so glad I recommended her to be apart of this organization. Her big sister is great also. Now, I am interested in becoming someone’s big sister. Sincerely, Kim Hooks
